Wotcher everyone! This week I share with you some of my questions about the Harry Potter series. So if you’re not a Potterhead, you have permission to return to your usual, non-newsletter plans — but if you are, read and suffer the xxx that these questions bring. Then let me know if you have any of your own.
What do Blast-Ended Skrewts look like? They are not pictured in the movies, so when I read the books I imagined it would resemble a grasshopper that could shoot fire out of its ass, but the Harry Potter wiki entry shows 2.5 different versions of what it could be.
Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix should be renamed to Harry Potter and The Rise of Ginny Weasley because book Ginny glows up so much in that book. She starts calling Harry out on stupid things, like trying to go to the Ministry all by himself, and becomes an amazing character in her own right beyond Ron’s younger sister.
And speaking of Ginny, does Dean Thomas freak out after Ginny starts dating Harry because they hung out all summer? It isn’t canon, but she could have been cheating on him throughout the holidays…
Christmas and Easter are celebrated at Hogwarts, but why? We don’t know if Godric/Rowena/Helga were purebloods or halfbloods, but Salazar was definitely a pureblood. I can’t see him even knowing what Christmas is, since the purebloods barely know anything about the muggle world (cc: Arthur Weasley). There is no clear religion in the Wizarding World either.
Is there no form of physical exercise besides Quidditch? How do regular, non-Quidditch playing wizards and witches avoid becoming overweight?
How did Snape find so much time to experiment with potion insturctions to figure out where to add a clockwise stir after every seventh counterclockwise stir?
For our entertainment
I used to scroll the Harry Potter tag on tumblr whenever I had time. Here are some memes that I’ve amassed over the years!
🧁 For when the sweet tooth strikes…
Drop by Bakeaholic Cafe for “cakes and more” — they have madelines, croffles (croissant + waffle) and doffles (donut + waffle). The names alone already sound extremely yummy… totally nothing to do with the fact that I’m typing this on an empty stomach.
Until next time
But till then, here’s what I liked this week
🍝 A helpful addition to the kitchen
I discovered that Barilla teamed up with Spotify to make playlists that match a type of noodle. The idea behind it: Once your water is boiling, you'll add the pasta into the water and press play on the corresponding playlist. Your pasta is then ready when the playlist is over. So you could have Boom Bap Fusilli or Simply Classics Linguine, depending on how you feel that day.
📕 Peeking into the bookshelves of the rich and famous
Yes, I do want to know what all these interesting people are reading and what books they’d recommend.
Heading into the weekend like

Bless,
Zan
